Mindfulness Group of Southwest Michigan
Meets on the first and third Sunday of each month from 1 to 3 pm
This group is for all in the Kalamazoo and Portage who enjoy meditation and would like to be in a community, or sangha, of like-minded individuals. We practice in the tradition of Zen Buddhist master Thich Nhat Hanh's order of Interbeing. The Mindfulness Meditation sessions are facilitated by lay practitioners. New and experienced mindfulness practitioners are welcome, and instructions and guidance will be given each session. Donations are appreciated. Pre-registration is required
Yin Yoga: A Practice of Stillness
Fourth Friday afternoons from 2 to 3:30 pm
Third Sunday afternoons from 4 to 5:30 pm
Afternoon Yin classes are limited to SIX participants and registration is required.
is a very different type of yoga class than most of us are typically familiar with. Instead of stretching and stimulating the muscles, Yin yoga focuses on stimulating the connective tissues and joints, improving the flow of Chi or Prana through these areas. This is accomplished through passive holding of specific postures for 3-5 minutes, using the breath to ease the body further into the pose. Yin yoga is very meditative and can be a perfect complement to a more Yang or active yoga practice. A great class for all levels of practitioners. Class is limited to six participants and registration is required. Your donation is your registration.
Yoga and Journaling
Meets at the Portage District Library on the third Friday of each month from 1:30 to 3 pm, free
A combination journaling and slow-flow yoga class, pairing writing prompts that encourage self-exploration and creative thinking with a gentle vinyasa flow. A journal, like a yoga mat, can be a refuge, a place where you can discover more about who you really are, and celebrate that discovery. This workshop is free and meets at the Portage District Library. For more information and to register, click here.
