November 2025

Hey, yogis! The next few months can be full and busy, and maintaining a regular yoga practice becomes an essential way to stay centered and connected. As we head into the holiday season and toward the end of the year, our classes will focus on calming, stretching practices that soothe the nervous system, open the heart, and invite peace—both on and off the mat.

In addition to our regular schedule, we have a few special classes and events that offer more opportunities to relax. Join us for a special mid-week Restorative practice at 6:30 this Wednesday evening (October 29), a Sound Immersion on Saturday, November 8 at 10 am, and a weekly Yin & Restorativepractice every Sunday afternoon at 4.

If you're looking for something with a little more movement and challenge, join us for a specialty class on Sun Salutations where yogis will learn the sacred interpretation of each part of the vinyasa, how to safely practice the Chaturanga flow, and how to make stepping forward easier and more fluid. This is a great class for those who are curious about level 2 practices. And for something spicy and soft, join us for another session of Yang to Yin on Black Friday at 9:30 am.

Weather-related Closures

We rarely close for weather, but if conditions are unsafe, we’ll always put the well-being of our students and teachers first. Any cancellations or schedule changes will be posted on our website, in our Facebook group, and emailed to registered students as soon as possible. Please check before heading out if the weather looks questionable.

Thank You for Helping Our Yoga Community Flow Smoothly

We love seeing so many of you using our online system to plan your practice! You can sign up for classes up to a month ahead, and if you can’t make it, please take a moment to cancel so another yogi can join in.

Looking Ahead...

Regular classes will be canceled on Friday, November 28 for our Black Friday version of Yang to Yin.  Be Well will be closed from December 20-31 for winter recess. Classes will resume with a New Year Yang to Yin at 9:30 am on January 1.

Exploring Our Next Yama: Asteya (Generosity)

Yoga is more than exercise—it’s a philosophy, much like Buddhism, Taoism, or Confucianism, offering guidance on how to live with awareness, kindness, and integrity. It’s less about belief and more about how we show up in the world with mindfulness and compassion. Our study of the Yamas and Niyamas, the philosophical backbone of yoga, continues—and this month, we turn our attention to Asteya, the art of non-stealing in all areas of life. Beyond the literal sense of not taking what isn’t ours, Asteya invites us to notice the subtle ways we might grasp for more—more time, attention, possessions, or even energy—often out of a feeling of lack. When we practice Asteya, we root ourselves in gratitude and trust that what we have, and who we are, is enough. From that place of contentment, generosity and ease naturally arise, both on and off the mat. To dive a little deeper, explore The Yamas & Niyamas by Deborah Adele, our read-together book, and check out the journaling prompts in the Be Well Members' Area

Embracing the spirit of Asteya and the joy of giving, Be Well is proud to support the Kalamazoo YWCA and Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes. Both organizations offer vital programs that create safety, nourishment, and opportunity for women, children, and families—especially during this time of reduced federal funding. More information about ways to give - including a Make & Take workshop, Schelle’s Energy Sessions, and proceeds from our gift shop - are coming soon.

Basket of Abundance is our new way to share a little extra love and flow within our community. You’re invited to leave something that no longer serves you and to take something that speaks to your heart. This simple exchange is rooted in Asteya, the yogic principle of non-stealing, which reminds us that abundance grows when we release what we no longer need and trust that what we need will find its way to us. Together, we keep the spirit of generosity and gratitude alive at the studio.

Deep gratitude for each of you who continues to show up, breathe deeply, and share in this season of abundance and gratitude. Together, we fill the studio with warmth, kindness, and peace.

Namaste,

Susan
